The City in Ruin

Dedicated to Ivory Rose.....

The day was long, and she had considered it done. As she put on her sweat shirt and shorts, she leaped over the dog sleeping on the floor near the marble table, and she threw herself upon the sofa. Almost immediately, her eyes began to close. For some strange reason, she stretched her hand out, and turned the stereo on. CD player activated, and she couldn't remember what she was listening to the night before. As the music softly began with a guitar storm, she remembered moments before she slept......"Meatloaf"...."I would do anything for love, but I won't do that".....she smirked at the term...."anything"....and began to lose conciousness.

His eyes had finally sealed before the Darkness of this world. All his dreams where the same.....her. No matter where, or how, she always came to his waking hours, as much as to his sleeping moments. He loved her beyound comprehension...and that was why he wanted to forget her. How to survive constantly remembering the one you desire, without being able to hold...to grasp...to caress? In his mind, it was better to live ignorant than to die wise. Eyes closed without effort. And the guitar storm rang out through the halls lightly.....and his eyes opened wide.....

His pulse raced to untold reason. He moved, ears perked to capture the tone....the rhyme....the reason....why did the guitars sound within Hades? He has never known of music within his domain. It was simply not found here. But yet, he could recognize the brillante grasp of metal chords. But the direction, the location...it all came from....the city. His eyes widen even more in the dark, and the Crimson began to burn hotly from his eyes. She was feeling the temperature to her body elevate, and some feeling of unchecked nature began to ring in her head. She wanted....who? Only hunger, primal hunger was her thought, but for whom did she prey? As desire began to fill her in her dream, he was choking at the thought of something within the city. Something alive. Something...not real. With the music beginning euphony of guitar and piano, she opened her mouth lightly as if to kiss, and he said words unmentioned for years from him....."no".......

Her pulse raced as did his when he reached the door. Sealed for ages past, he built it as the only entrance to the city. Solace and solitud the only inhabitants of this long forbidden modern age city, he kept it "alive" as a monument to remind him that his only home, is an empty one.....As he touched the door, she breathed deeply, pleasantly. His pulse was to high to be real, and he tore the door from its metallic hinges. She opened her mouth even wider, and he just gasped in horror.....

Restless Ones....they were here, in his city, in her mind. Spirits given to being created from clashing emotions, from unvented anger...or love. They were hated and feared, for being that which one most hated...the truth. The angel's eyes flashed in powerful Crimson as he angered to a new power....to hate now even more. She began to sweat softly in her dream. The music was now a guitar swooning a piano solo. It was necessary to divide oneself to defeat the Restless Ones, so he did. Throwing his old, blackened cloak into a local bar of the city, the garment took on life, possessing at the same moment a nearby piano. As the angel began to run and fly through the city, chasing down the spirits that were making screeching metal guitar sounds with their unnatural claws upon concrete and glass, his cloak began to fly through the air with piano attempting to soothe the beast.....for a moment, she felt the growl within her ease.....

The Restless Ones were many...so many....He could not understand what could have created such a number of the creatures, and she began to feel herself descend as he fell to the ground grappling with a few. She next stood on the highest tower to the decadent city, and he stood with marks and gashes about his body as they bones of the spirits cracked. More came down upon him, yelling with their metallic ring, "Destory the city...to forget her...." He could only look on as a legion came upon him, and he whispered as anger flared his fists to mercury red and mist, "I would do anything for love...." She could hear the song finish for him..."but I won't do that......" Looking down, she could see her white robe flutter in the high winds and her pearly dull wings opened to the sky, as the Restless Ones began to pull on her lace clothing. She could swear to feel their longing eyes upon her body, but their hoods hid much of their dead expressions. The cloak and piano kept playing, trying to calm all. She was straining against their pull, but to no avail. The large talon came upon her shoulder, and she turned to face it....the regret to her feelings....face to face.....As the creature tied her to the large spiked radio tower, it laughed with a hightened squeek. Its wings, batlike, moved quickly to restrain her. Its eyes flared red as he knew what would ocurre next....and he licked his maw as he looked to her body....she was angered now......

The battle was eternal to him, and he could only finish some when many would take against him. Scars and cuts, blood and Crimson all mixed with smashing metal and bones against concrete and wood. Cars were lifted and destroyes, as were houses and building decimated by their anger, upon one another. Angel against spirit...both restless, both dangerous....both alone. Restless Ones only rang out to him..."Destory the city...to forget her...." He only whispered back, "I would do anything for love..." With a tear in her eye as the creature began to caress her, he only said, "but I won't do that...." As he took to the air to finish this with all, in one grand impact against all, including the city, he saw her. And his memories swept back even further to him. White lace gown, flowing hair...even her jade green/grey eyes could be seen across the city. Emeralds sparkling to him....only him. All his cuts and wounds meant nothing to the pain of having her now near, and still being unable to touch the only reason for the city being a reality. With only a moment of thought, he did not move, and the Restless Ones came upon him.....his body fell harshly into a steel beam jutting from the ground at an angle. His felt his ribs break now as she felt claws upon her voluptous body........his tears mixed with blood as the city began to burn.....

Quickly, the spirits grouped, and joined to come down upon the broken night warrior, with the most pleasant of glee. They starved for his heart, his soul, and they entended to have him, then her....as she felt the bat closer to her person, she just wanted the scream to come forth, but its presence...only her truths came to her, "I would do anything....." The Restless Ones flew down in turning circles, closing upon the last breath of the angel, and yelling to him for most opportune time, "Destroy the city....to forget her...." As they could nearly touch his body, and tear his flesh, he only smiled with hate to his eyes, "but I won't do that".....the Restless Ones never knew the amount of hate that was unleashed in that Crimson death given to all of them, as the angel gave all his ire to that one thank you to the spirits. In making him hate them, he realized why they existed......he forgave them, as they died in Crimson.....Painfully pulling his body upon from the smelted metal and ashes, he already knew his wings were gone to him now, and she was so far away. He wanted to fall to his knees and die with the remaining ashes of his enemies. As the metal structure around him began to fall piece by piece, he only stayed, hoping that the metal would end the life the spirits could not. The bat, from the building, could see his fallen nemesis, and he laughed to the wind. It was done, all was his....the city, the life.....the woman..........as he approached the tied angel, the dark warrior saw parts of his wings burn in fire...life leaving him as he ashes came to them.......the roar was loud, enough to make him turn....the motor was beautiful, and the chromo was more than life.....the bat smiled at his prize, but so did the Angelus as he knew only how............

With a sharpened, molded claw, the bat began to slip on part of her dress off. She could only, for some unknown reason, hear only music that was distant and cruel. Enjoying every moment was all the bat could do, for there was no hurry. Even though he knew he lost the Restless Ones, he gained so much more....looking to her body, so much more........As the roar neared his head, he wondered how a Restless One survived, but no matter, he would put it to destroy what was left. Turning to give the command to destroy, the Angelus, darker than the night that gave meaning to him, grabbed the bat's upper wing and tore a piece of flesh off.....smile upon his face as he flew by on a burning motorcycle more hellish than.....the bat rang to anger and lushfull pain. The glance of both met, and Hell knew that only one could ever truly own the city. She felt her breathing deepen, and she felt as if she was dreaming again....the look of lostness came to her eyes, and her mouth lightly opened.....as if to kiss.....

The bat took to the air, as the flaming cycle with darkness as rider came back for return. Both would meet, and both did as Crimson and claw met for the first and last time above the burning city below. Both would strike true, one for anger, and the other now for love untold. Both would fall.......and only one would rise. She managed to unbound her ties, and she was afraid to take flight. Waiting, she wanted only to see his smile. Flames made sight impossible to the streets below, so she leaned over the edge. Spotting nothing, feeling nothing, she knew.....both were gone....one evil stopped, as well as one love detained. She was turning, when the claw grabbed her waist, and she felt the nail bite deep into her abdomen. Blood spilling, and the bat was happier then could be concieved. As it pulled its mass over the edge, it had already come to the conclusion that her life was precious, but her body was priceless....and as a meal, more so....lifting claw to strike at the heart of the weakened beauty, it brought its claw down and she could only scream.....a roar? The bat turned to the see the cycle jump up high and over the edge of the building. Even with the motor between its sight and the face of the advesary, the creature could tell that the Crimson would be the last thing it would ever see.....how true that is, especially when a wheel of flame is brought down upon the skull of who happens to lie under it......

With a clashing sound, he landed upon the dead body of the creature, barely keeping himself from going over the edge. She was paralyzed, but then ran to steady him as he rose. He only looked into her eyes, cuts hurting deep, and his lips longed for hers. As they closed, both bloodied and hurt for emotions that each denied, they began to touch, when the claw of the creature struck from the ground, unto the back of the beauty. She screamed from pain, he from anger, and creature from glee. With the brillant light from his eyes, there were now three suns to this world......the burning city below, and the two glowing eyes that flashed nova as the Angelus struck his arm into the chest of the creature, break tissue and bone....he lifted the creature into the air, and the flames below turned the enemy to a long past dream.........As he turned to pick her from the floor, his own wounds opened even further seeing her in pain....She only looked to his eyes, smiling, "Let me die, to save your city...." He only replied with a kiss, then he wept as he said, "I would do anything for love, but I won't do that....." The CD skipped as she awoke in the voice solo of the song....she was slightly startled, but decided that it was better to go to sleep to her bed. She got up to go to the kitchen first to get a small drink. She failed to
